1. In the Integrations tab, click Update Shopify Integration and follow instructions. Among other permissions, this step essentially gives Visual Quiz Builder the permission to send tags and metafield data to Shopify Customers

Under all our tiers, we send the following tags: Quiz, Newsletter, <name of the quiz>, <each product recommendation>, each question or answer (or custom tags for individual question and answer combinations can be sent as described below)

Nearly all email automation tools like Klaviyo, Omnisend, Braze, Mailchimp and of course Shopify Flow that integrate with Shopify import Shopify tags (including the tags sent by Visual Quiz Builder) that can be used to identify quiz takers, recommended products and segment customers.

  2. Custom tags and metafields:

    1. Ensure the following settings are enabled: Use tag for shopify customer tagging and Use tag for shopify customer meta. By default, they will be enabled

    2. For new quizzes, Visual Quiz Builder will automatically generate tags that use the first 40 characters of each question and answer option heading content. You can of course change this. If you created your quiz before November 2024, these tags will not be automatically generated so as not to impact the behavior of existing quizzes.

    3. Customer Metafields: Visual Quiz Builder will send quiz data such as question / answers, recommended products and the recommendation URL as unstructured data to Shopify. In order for this data to show up in an accessible way under each customer profile, you would need to add definitions to this data within your Shopify admin. The GIF’s below will show you how to accomplish this.

Customer Information Captured by the VQB Shopping Agent

Along with customer contact information and metafields, the Shopping Agent can also sync useful tags and an AI-generated customer summary to the Shopify customer profile.

Tags help categorize shoppers based on their preferences, recommendations, or responses collected during the conversation. These tags can be used for customer segmentation, Shopify automations, and marketing workflows.

Notes contain an AI-generated summary of the shopper's conversation, including their preferences, needs, and the recommendations provided. This gives your team valuable context without having to review the entire chat.

Tip: Tags and Notes make it easy to personalize future customer interactions, build targeted marketing campaigns, and quickly understand each shopper's interests directly from their Shopify profile.

Customer profiles are created or updated in Shopify only when the Required Contact Information toggle is enabled during Shopping Agent setup. This prompts shoppers to provide their email address, which is required for syncing customer data to Shopify.
